The Tracks at Brea Trail

Tracks logoBrea’s “Tracks at Brea” project consists of a four mile long multi-use trail and lineal park that will traverse the City from east to west. When finished, it will carry a two-way paved bikeway and a separate pedestrian footpath providing an opportunity to make easy connections across town. It is certain to become an attractive option for public access to the Brea Senior Center and the Brea Boys and Girls Club, as well as six schools, Downtown, Brea Mall, the Brea Community Center, city parks, shopping and numerous employers. Comprising about 50 total acres of lineal open space, The Tracks also will offer new community green space within an urban corridor.

This trail map shows where the completed route will be once the project is finished.

The concept has been in the works for many years. A volunteer community task force worked to gather and analyze information as an early part of the process. Outreach began in May of 2009 and led to three separate vision workshops and a community survey. An outreach report on that effort was compiled in 2010. Since that time, significant grants have been received by the City; a critical factor to offset the demise of redevelopment agencies as a funding source. Property was acquired and construction has been completed on two segments.

Construction for the Tracks has been broken into six segments due to complexity and cost. Success in obtaining grant funding from multiple sources and targeted timing of expenditures to meet grant requirements has been critical. Soil conditions in some areas require specialized environmental treatment. Nearby construction projects may also affect access to certain segments and timing for work.

Despite these many challenges, the first segment was completed in 2012. It runs in a north-south direction starting in Arovista Park on the south side of town. This trail segment then leads along the western edge of downtown behind parking structure #2. The portion between Brea Blvd. and State College Blvd opened to the public in March 2016. A segment that travels through Birch Hills Golf Course between Birch Street and State College Boulevard will open soon.

The Tracks at Brea is part of the OC Loop, a 66 mile connection of trails around Orange County.

As future updates become available, they will be posted on this website and circulated through the Brea Line newsletter and other City outlets. Updates are also reflected in Trail News. You may direct your questions and suggestions to
