2015 Summer Police Explorer Academy

Posted on August 10, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. by johnb johnb

On Sunday, August 9, over 90 Police Explorers from around Orange County and other parts of Southern California graduated from the summer Police Explorer Academy. This summer’s academy program took place at Irvine Park, and consisted of five days of intensive law enforcement-related training. During the academy, the Explorers live at the site and are provided training in law, police tactics, and physical fitness. In order to provide Explorers a glimpse of a Police Academy, the Explorer academy mimics the stress of that environment. Explorers are subjected to stress inspections, are required to memorize and recite important facts about police work and their departments, and may be assigned physical discipline such as push-ups or other exercises.

The academy program is presented by the Orange County Law Enforcement Explorer Association (OCLEEA). OCLEAA has been coordinating Police Explorer activities in Orange County for many years. It relies on the hard work of the dedicated Police Explorer advisors throughout the County. Each police agency Explorer Post has police officer Advisors who lead the post through training, volunteer work, and other activities designed to provide young people a glimpse of the field of law enforcement and provide personal enrichment. The Brea Police Department has for many years had a strong presence within OCLEEA. At the academy graduation ceremony, OCLEAA took the opportunity to specifically recognize the dedication of Brea Police Officer Jason Celmer. Office Celmer has been a long-standing Explorer Advisor within Brea PD, and spent the last ten years as a member of the OCLEAA board of directors. During his time with OCLEEA, Officer Celmer has served in many board officer positions, been an academy tactical officer, and served several terms as academy director. We at Brea PD are extremely proud of Officer Celmer’s work with Police Exploring. Not only has he represented our department and the Brea community well, he has also made lasting positive impacts on the lives of hundreds of Police Explorers.

Also, we would like to congratulate Brea Police Explorer Dylan Marshall on his successful completion of the 2015 summer academy. Dylan represented the Brea post exceptionally!
