Construction Underway for the Tracks at Brea

"The Tracks at Brea" are fast becoming reality. Construction is already completed at Arovista Park, funded through a grant from OCTA. But even more activity is expected to follow along other segments in the coming months.

Here is a MAP showing where the completed trail will be once the project is completed.

The majority of the “Trails” project that is located at Arovista Park, is now complete. It will become one of the popular areas that would serve as a kind of "trailhead" in the future. A shared-use walking and biking trail now runs through Arovista Park, from the skate park to Imperial Highway. This includes new concrete sidewalks, landscaping, and trail striping.

Public Works, with the use of Proposition 40 money, has renovated the amphitheater area and resurfaced and repainted  two basketball courts . The basketball courts were becoming faded and worn and the new surface will improve playability and safety to court users. In addition, the amphitheater concrete was removed and replaced and will receive new trees and barbecues. Overall, these new additions and improvements to Arovista Park will bring in new park users and benefit current users as well.

For the overall Tracks at Brea Project, an initial land purchase closed escrow for the abandoned railroad right-of-way between State College and Brea Boulevard and purchase of another segment between State College and Birch Street on the east end of town is completed. This parcel would then interconnect with the trail within the planned La Floresta project.

Two channels, Brea Canyon to the west of downtown, and Loftus, east of Kraemer, would also be eventually incorporated into the trail system under yet another agreement still being negotiated with the County of Orange.

Work on this concept has been in the works for years. A volunteer community task force had worked for many months to gather and analyze information as part of the process. Community outreach began in May of 2009 and led to three separate vision workshops and a community survey. Over 220 responses were received. The outreach report is available here.

Future updates will be added here as work progresses.
