Investigative Services Division Investigations Unit The investigations division is comprised of the following investigation units: Robbery/Homicide: Two Detectives are assigned to investigate Homicide, Robbery, Kidnapping, Suspicious Deaths, Domestic Violence, Elder Abuse, and other Major Assaults. Juvenile/Sex Crimes: Three Detectives are assigned to investigate most cases involving juveniles as victims or suspects, runaway juveniles, and Sexual Assault cases. Property Crimes/General Investigation: Five Detectives are assigned to investigate property crimes and other misdemeanor crimes. This unit also investigates reports of missing persons. Financial Crimes: Four Detectives are assigned to investigate financial crimes, including identity theft, forgery, and check fraud. Special Enforcement: The members of the Special Enforcement Detail investigate violations of narcotics and alcohol laws, gang-related crime, and violations of massage parlor ordinances. Regional Enforcement Task Forces: The Brea Police Department has Detectives assigned to county-wide task forces for specialized investigations of narcotics trafficking and auto theft. Crime Analysis: One Crime Analyst is assigned to complete systematic, analytical processes directed at providing timely and pertinent information relative to crime patterns and trend correlations. The objective of Crime Analysis is to assist operational and administrative personnel with planning the deployment of resources, preventing and suppressing criminal activity, aiding the investigative process to increase the apprehension of criminals, and assisting in clearing cases.
