 Ron Garcia Biography
Councilmember Ron Garcia was elected to the Brea City Council in November 2006 and 2010. He was appointed mayor in 2009 and 2013. Prior to his election, he served on the Brea Planning Commission for six years, including serving as its chair.

Councilmember Garcia is currently serving as an alternate on the city's Development Committee, Finance Committee, and Investment Advisory Committee.

As part of his council duties as mayor during 2010, Garcia chaired the City of Brea’s Finance Committee. He served on the Development Committee, in addition to representing the city as an alternate for the Orange County Sanitation District and the city representative for the Four Corners Transportation Policy Committee and Four Corners Transportation Coalition.

Councilmember Garcia was appointed to the National League of Cities Housing, Community, and Economic Development Policy and Steering Committee (HCED), the Military Communities Council, and the League of California Cities HCED Policy Committee, serving as its chair in 2010, and served on the Regional Housing Needs Allocation (RHNA) subcommittee. Councilmember Garcia serves on the Orange County Housing and Community Development Commission (HCD) as its vice chair. He is a member of the Southern California Council of Governments (SCAG) Community, Economic and Human Development Committee (CEHD), and is a sub-regional representative for the Orange County Council of Governments (OCCOG), and serves on the Board of Directors for NALEO, as its membership chair. In addition, Councilmember Garcia has been appointed to the Orange County Veterans Advisory Council.

Councilmember Garcia is active in many other organizations including serving as:
  • Advisory board member for the U.S. Army
  • Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus
  • Life member of Brea Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW)
  • Life member of the Vietnam Veterans Association
  • Member of the Brea American Legion

Councilmember Garcia has served as an appointee by former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to serve on the California Seismic Safety Commission and served on the California Housing Partnership Corporation Board for the past four years as an appointee of Governor Schwarzenegger. In addition, councilmember Garcia is a past member of the Orange County Division, League of California Cities Advocacy Committee and has previously held positions which include serving:
  • As a chair and vice chair of the Brea Planning Commission
  • As a chair of the Brea Investment Advisory Committee
  • On the Board of Directors for the Neighborhood Housing Services of Orange County
  • On the Board of Directors for the Orange County Housing Trust
  • On the Board of Directors for the Santa Ana Federal Empowerment Zone Corporation
  • As president of the Hispanic Outreach Taskforce (HOT)
  • As president for the Whittier Chamber of Commerce
  • On the Board of Directors for the Whittier YMCA
  • On the Board of Directors for the Skills Foundation
  • As a founding member of the City of Whittier Sister City Committee
  • As the founding president of the National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professional, Orange
  • County Division and its Board of Directors
  • Member of the Orange County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce

North Orange County magazine named Councilmember Garcia one of the top 25 most influential people in North Orange County for 2006 in the area of politics and public service.

Councilmember Garcia is retired from Fannie Mae where he held the position of senior deputy director. His education includes a bachelor of science in business administration, with a minor in finance, from the University of Redlands.

Councilmember Garcia is a veteran of the United States Navy, where he completed two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was awarded the Veteran of the Year Award for the 72nd Assembly District. Councilmember Garcia and his wife Marcy have lived in Brea for 38 years.
