The City of Brea and the Brea Senior Center provide important information regarding health aid services for people 55 years and better.  Do you, or someone you know, need assistance in these areas?

Adult Public Health Nursing Services
Free General Health Assessments
1st & 3rd Thursdays of Each Month
9:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Adult Public Health Nursing Services (APHNS) is a community health assessment program. Basic health screenings and follow-up for clients with special needs and health problems are provided for adults 18 years or order. No medical treatment is provided. APHNS can help you: identify health problems early; find needed health care and social services; learn preventive health practices; and stay as healthy as possible. Medi-Cal information is available from APHNS. Appointment Required.

Free Specialized Phone Information
4th Tuesday of Each Month

Do you, or does anyone you know, have difficulty using the telephone? Perhaps you have trouble with one of the following: 

  • Can’t hear the other person 
  • The other person can’t hear you 
  • The numbers on the telephone pad are too small 
  • Are unable to get to the telephone in time before it stops ringing

The California Telephone Access Program (CTAP) provides adaptive telephone equipment and related services AT NO COST to California residents who have difficulty using a standard telephone because of temporary or permanent problems hearing, speaking, seeing, moving or remembering. That’s right! Free telephone equipment! The next time you get your telephone bill, look for the surcharge that reads “CA Relay Service & Communications Devices Fund”. This monthly tax funds the state program known as CTAP. To qualify, you must be a California resident with active telephone service and must have an application form signed by a licensed physician or audiologist. It’s that simple! The best part is that once enrolled in the program, you get a lifetime “warranty” on all the equipment. That means that should the telephone equipment ever break, or you find that it is not serving your needs, you can simply contact our Call Center and we will gladly send you an exchange or replacement.


Free Medicare & Health Insurance Counseling
2nd & 4th Mondays each month 9:30-11:30 a.m.
Appointment Required 
A volunteer from HICAP (Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program) will be at the Senior Center, each 2nd and 4th Monday of the month from 9:30-11:30 a.m. This service benefits anyone who has questions or needs assistance regarding Medicare, HMO’s and secondary and long-term care insurance. This is a free service to seniors. To register for an appointment please call 714-990-7750, or visit the Senior Center reception desk.

Medical Equipment Loaning Program
Durable medical equipment such as walkers, canes, portable commodes, and bathing benches may be borrowed at no charge for Brea Seniors. Donations are appreciated! Call (714) 990-7750 for more information.

Free Spinal Screening
Brea Senior Center
3rd Tuesday of each month
 Noon–1:00 p.m.
Appointment required
A physcian from Complete Balance that specializes in decreasing aches and pains that come from arthritis and other back-related problems will be on hand once a month. If you have back pain, neck pain, headaches, or joint stiffness and would like to learn how to decrease your discomfort, this screening is a great opportunity for you! Blood Pressure Monitoring
Brea Senior Center
Tuesdays, 9:00-11:00 a.m. 
High blood pressure increases your chance (or risk) for getting heart disease and/or kidney disease, and for having a stroke. It is especially dangerous because it often has no warning signs or symptoms. It is estimated that one in every four American adults has high blood pressure. Once high blood pressure develops, it usually lasts a lifetime. You can prevent and control high blood pressure by taking action. Stop in each week for your free monitoring record.

Mental Health Screening
2nd Wednesday of each Month
10:00-11:30 a.m.
Are you more and more forgetful? Do you often feel down in the dumps? Come in for a free Mental Health Screening available at the Brea Senior Center. Meet trained professionals from Fullerton Neuropsychological Services. Screenings will be conducted by St. Jude Medical Center Psychology Post Doctoral Residents, supervised by Medical Staff Members.To make an appointment and for more information, please call (714) 990-7755.

Living with Limited Vision
2nd  Wednesday of the Month
9:30-11:00 am
The Braille Institute will provide this monthly support series at the Brea Senior Center to help you learn practical skills as well as coping skills to live with limited vision.

Brown Bag Food Distribution 
Varies, twice per month (Call for dates)
9:30-11:00am
All Brea seniors over the age of 60 with a qualifying income are welcome to participate in this free food distribution sponsored by Second Harvest Food Bank. Call (714) 990-7750 for more information.

General Health Assessments
First and Third Thursdays of each month, 9:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.
Appointments Required
A Registered Nurse from the Adult Public Health Nursing Services provides free basic health assessments to older adults (age 55 and over) at the Brea Senior Center. For appointments call (714) 990-7750 or stop by the Reception Desk at the Center – Appointments are required.

Free Vision Screening 
Last Tuesday of each Month
9:30 a.m. -1:30 p.m.
Appointment Required
